Compare home security systems |
We recently had to compare home security systems for our new house. Our family moved between cities and we wanted the peace of mind that comes with having a home security system that was monitored 24 x 7 by a reputable company. This got us knee-deep into the home security system world, which can be confusing if you are new to the space. Based on what I learned, I thought I should share this information in case other people are going security system comparisons as well.
Based on my research, here are some things you need to find out about as you consider a security system purchase.
Has the company been around a long time? Remember, the issue here is security and peace of mind. This is ultimately trust at the core. Don't sign up with a new or shady looking company just because they have the lowest price. Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose?
Does the security company have any awards? These may seem cheesy, but companies that get external recognition for their customer service are usually pretty good at it. It takes work to build an organization that consistently delights the customer. Look for those companies that have been recognized as it means you will probably be treated well.
Does the company do both installation and service? I prefer this as I don't want too many cooks in the kitchen. I also get nervous if the installation is subcontracted out. Again, this is all about security and trust. You want to know that the people putting in your alarm system have been through a good background check and have worked there for more than a day before you give them the keys to your house.
These are just a few of the high level ideas I have for how to compare home security systems and companies when you considering a purchase. When it comes to the technical aspects of how the system actually works - that's an entirely different discussion and we will be posting on that one later.
